MAY 2009

The ongoing maintenance and up-grading work, being undertaken by John Sachs and his small crew of dedicated volunteers, is well underway.

The road side (right hand bank) has now been fully up-graded and will be available to members from Monday 25th MAY. The majority of swims have been dug up and re-modelled, with new facia boards. After back-filling with new soil, the stone chip topping, used to improve drainage, has been reduced to a light skimming – this should make the use of conventional bank sticks and umbrellas easier. Being newly laid, the swims may look a bit raw and may be subject to settling through use, only time will tell. If you notice any major defects or undue wear occurring, please inform the work crew.

The causeway is still undergoing major repairs and re-modelling, with the first 3 (of 5) disabled/wheelchair friendly swims being introduced. Fishing from the causeway swims will become available as and when ready, subject to the requirements of the work crew. Out of bounds areas will be clearly marked or roped off.

The field side (left hand bank) still requires major maintenance and re-modelling, which will be undertaken over the coming months. Fishing on this side will remain available until individual swims are taken out of service whilst work is carried out. Again, out of bounds areas will be clearly marked or roped off.

During the ongoing phases of these works, all members are requested to give due consideration to the needs of the work crews who, in turn, will attempt to minimise any disturbance to your enjoyment of the available facilities.

Health & Safety

Please give a wide berth to areas where work is in progress and be extra vigilant when passing or coming across moving vehicles, plant and machinery.

For the Future

The area at the lake end of the path from the car-park, which is currently being dug up to provide back-fill soil for the various works going on, will eventually be levelled and turned into a car-park specifically for the use of disabled badge holders – more details will be made available when this project is completed. We are also looking at providing a toilet block in this vicinity at some time in the future.

If you have any suggestions of further improvements to the infra-structure of this, or any other of our waters, why not attend a work-party, give some much needed assistance and put your views forward.

Located close to the A23 just off the Hickstead roundabout, these lakes are a new acquisition for the club and have proved very popular already. Stocked with carp, roach and rudd some very good weights have already appeared in matches. They are relatively shallow with Bullrush lake having slightly greater depth.
