The Mill Pond

The Mill Pond is a 25 peg water with an abundance of natural features - an island at one end, overhanging bushes, trees and lily patches throughout its length. Is is a picturesque water that is equally suited to a days outing or a quick evenings stalking with bread. It is elongated being quite shallow throughout its length, the deeper swims being below the island towards the car park

There are carp, crucians, tench,  bream, perch, roach and good sized rudd in this water and unusually the occasional leather carp. The quality of the fish and fishing belies the size of this pond-carp have been caught to 16lbs and bream to over 6 lbs. There is also a small stream running along the back of the pond which has perch, chub and roach and provides an interesting alternative to the pond just find the deeper holes and drop a bait in.

Tactics this is definitely a water that will react differently on different days. I would say that pole fishing or strong margin whip is really the way to go particularly during the summer months when there is much weed cover. Waggler and light feeder does score on more open swims and below the island where there is only marginal weed. Pellet, corn, paste and meat will target better carp, bream and tench. Maggot and pinkie will account for most bites and in colder weather is taken in preference to larger baits. Everyone has their own favourite groundbait, personally, I prefer using a low feed high attract groundbait such as swimstim green or black or special G. Loose feeding either maggots, pinkies or pellets over the feed area does work.
